The population of Hamilton East Public Library’s service
district has increased by 98% in just ten years. This rapid growth
left them in need of larger facilities to house additional materials,
staff, and services.
The existing building was expanded from 45,000 to 102,000 square
feet. Its new design takes advantage of the building’s orientation
and allows significant natural light to enter from the low glare
Northeast light. Located on State Road 37, the new expansion
provides a dynamic presence in the community. The mayor of Noblesville
has suggested that this building could become a beacon to the eastern
entryway to their quickly growing city.
Overall, the new spaces will integrate with the existing building
and provide significantly larger reading areas, children’s
area, and local history room. Reflecting the library’s commitment
to lifelong learning, the new young adult space will be the largest
in Indiana.
