CHALLENGE: Fit a k-8 school with a gymnasium into an existing, tight church campus
SOLUTION: Placing a new road between the ministry center and rectory allowed appropriate traffic flow to the northeast corner of campus and building upward accomodated rom for a k-8 school on a restricted site. In order to utilize existing campus buildings, the school was positioned adjacent to the Knights of Columbus facility so that it could locate the school's cafeteria in their building. Although not typical for a suburban elementary school, creating a two-story school with a lower-level maximized space while keeping a limited building footprint. A 10,000 s.f. gymnasium was designed as a high school gym which opens the opportunity for the school to rent the facility and generate additional revenue. Since the opening of the school, enrollment has increased 42% from 168 students to 401 students.
