Today's press conference in Charleston, WV unveiled the plans for the Kanawha County Public Library. The brand new 140,000 square foot library will be nestled in the heart of the downtown near the Clay Center for Arts and Sciences and other cultural destinations, helping revitalize the area. Director Linda Wright shares that, "in KCPL's 95 year history, the Main Library has been housed in six different locations, but never one that was designed to be a library." The excitement is growing for this, $40 million, three story limestone and granite building that will serve 80,000 patrons monthly, double the amount of their current capabilities.
To promote awareness behind the project, "Just why DEWEY need a new library?" T-shirts were designed by KCPL, playing off library terms to communicate their needs to the community. Their statements sum it up:
We're all booked up
It's time for the sequel
It's overdue
To be more resource-ful
We have issues
Our patrons are entitled
Additions for the editions
Reading room ROOM
To pump up the volumes
It's time to turn the page
